Executive Vice President | Profit Center Leader
As Executive Vice President of Brown & Brown Florida, Inc., Pinellas Division since 2009, Alex is responsible for the performance and growth of our retail operations in West Central Florida as well as other areas in order to meet the needs of our clients and prospects. He began his career with Brown & Brown in 2004 as a Sales Executive and then served as Executive Vice President of the Naples Retail office from 2006-2009.
Alex was born and raised in St. Petersburg and graduated from the University of South Florida with a Business Degree in Management. Before joining Brown and Brown in 2004, he served in multiple capacities of his family’s travel and tourism businesses. He currently holds a Property & Casualty 2-20 and Life, Health and Variable Annuities 2-15 license. He is also a designee of The Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) since 2009.
Alex is active in the Tampa Bay community and is the Chairman of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Foundation, Finance Chair and Trustee of Academy Prep St. Petersburg, Board Member of Mahaffey Theatre Foundation, Board Member of Pioneer Park Foundation and Chairman of the Board of Cheetah’s for Charity, the Brown & Brown of Tampa Bay Charity Organization. Alex is married to Whitney and has two children, Lexi and Steele.
Senior Vice President | Sales Leader
Ryan Coffers is Brown & Brown Pinellas’ Senior Vice President and Sales Leader. He is responsible for the growth and development of our team of Property & Casualty, Employee Benefits, and Personal Lines Producers. Ryan holds a Property & Casualty 2-20 license as well as a Life, Health and Variable Annuities 2-15 license.
Ryan’s primary focus is on building and retaining relationships with local business owners and working with them on their insurance needs. He is an active member of the Associated Builders & Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, with a focus on leadership development, political advocacy, and business development. Ryan participated in the ABC NEXGEN Leadership Program in 2019 and served as chair of the ABC NEGXEN Leadership Program in 2020.
Ryan graduated from Stetson University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and a minor in management. He began his insurance career as a Property & Casualty Producer at the Brown & Brown corporate office in Daytona Beach, Florida. Ryan is married to his wife, Michele, a guidance counselor for the Medical Magnet Program at Palm Harbor University High School.
Senior Vice President | Employee Benefits Leader
As Brown & Brown Pinellas Sr. Vice President and Employee Benefits Team Leader, Amy utilizes strong analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with employee benefits health and welfare program cost containment expertise and insurance industry knowledge, to lead our Employee Benefits Division as well as to advise and guide our customer organizations in developing dynamic, sustainable, cost efficient, effective, and attractive employee benefits programs for their employees.
Amy began her insurance career with Brown & Brown in 2011 as an Employee Benefits consultant and advisor. She has over twenty years of diversified business experience in entrepreneurial business building, corporate cash management, and financial/insurance advising. Prior to joining Brown & Brown, she worked for The Chicago Federal Reserve Bank, SunTrust Banks, and was Vice President of Corporate Cash Management for Riggs National Bank, Washington, D.C. Amy also founded, built, and managed two small private businesses from the ground up, and has extensive financial management and corporate strategic planning experience.
Amy specializes in developing successful customer-specific employee benefits health and welfare program strategies with an emphasis on maximizing employer investment with cost containment initiatives and employee perceived value of plans.
Amy graduated from Tampa’s Plant High School, and has a Business Administration degree in Finance from Auburn University. She resides in South Tampa with her three sons.
Paula J. Sowell
Personal Lines Leader
Paula is a Personal Insurance Advisor and Team Leader at Brown & Brown Pinellas, with over two decades of experience in the insurance industry in Florida. Paula utilizes her many years of experience, mentoring skills, community presence, and carrier relationships to deliver the best value in the insurance market place and lead the Personal Lines Team.
As a Team Leader, Paula manages the Personal Lines Department; and obtains, maintains, expands and services Personal Lines accounts; either personally or through supporting team members. She trains, mentors, and supports both the service and sales team members.
Paula has been a team member of Brown & Brown for 5 years, helping people in the Tampa Bay and Pinellas Area manage every day risk by educating them about what they need, and recommending the most effective way to protect what they value most. She encourages face to-face meetings for a warm and personalized interaction with her customers, and as an added service, she conducts annual policy reviews assisting her customer’s maintain the peace of mind they deserve. Prior to joining Brown & Brown, Paula worked at a State Farm agency for 17 years, specializing in Life Insurance along with home, auto, umbrella, etc.
Paula graduated from Tampa’s King High School, and has a Business Administration degree in Management from Columbia College. She resides in Carrollwood with her fiance. She has two adult children and one grandchild.
Vice President | Commercial Lines Leader
Sean has worked in various parts of the insurance industry that have all lead him to his home as a Vice President at Brown & Brown Insurance. Sean joined Brown & Brown in January of 2012 after working in the personal lines sales arena as well as the excess and surplus underwriting arena. He enjoys interacting with everyone around him and getting involved in the community. He is a former chair of the Central Pinellas Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Tampa Bay Association of Continuity Professionals.
He sits on various committees in each of these groups mainly focusing on community development, educational development and governmental affairs. Sean also is a former president of the Pinellas County Gator Club (started a charity fishing tournament raising scholarship funds) and serves on the advisory board for the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation where he is an integral piece of the fundraising operations for the charity and co-chair of the Chi Chi Charity Classic.
Regional Marketing Leader
Kelley manages the Marketing Department of our Pinellas office and is responsible for commercial property & casualty placement, and carrier relationships. Kelley also oversees the marketing efforts of the Southeast Region. She has over 35 years of experience in property & casualty insurance, and she joined Brown & Brown in 2001. Kelley’s extensive industry expertise in new business development, coverage analysis and contract negotiations has allowed her to develop strong working relationships with the major insurance carriers throughout Florida. These relationships are critical when marketing your account to carriers and negotiating the best plan design, coverages and premiums for your specific business.
